    cashmobMade you look!

We’re not talking about a criminal endeavor type of mob; we’re law-abiding citizens and wouldn’t dream of participating in anything illegal. What we’re talking about here is a “Cash Mob.” For those of you in the crowd who may be unfamiliar with the concept, according to Wikipedia:

“A cash mob is a group of people who assemble at a local business and all buy items from that business. The purpose of these mobs is to support both the local businesses and the overall community. “

Perhaps The Today Show best explained it in one of their recent segments…

Anyone familiar with us here at South Shore Computer Repair, you know that we are huge supporters of shopping local. Not just with us but with all of the fantastic businesses and services that are in the Middleboro and Lakeville area. And now a new group is emerging on Facebook and they’re focused on making shopping local fun!

Cash Mob Middleborough-Lakeville is starting a grassroots movement by helping the community plan some dates to spend your money locally. May 25, 2012 is the second annual International Cash Mob Day and we want to celebrate this by encouraging everyone to get involved! Here’s how…

    1. Join the Facebook group
    2. Invite your local Facebook friends to the group.
    3. Suggest retailers or restaurants that the group could “mob;” no harm in suggesting your own business!
    4. Vote in the poll of which location will be mobbed.
    5. On May 25, 2012 go to that business and spend $10 or $20.
    6. Make sure to announce that you are a cash mobber. Introduce yourself to the owner/manager/employees and make a real life connection, not just a virtual online one.
    7. Encourage your employees, family, and friends to do the same.
    2. Invite your Middleborough/Lakeville area Facebook friends to the group.

    4. Vote in the poll of which location will be mobbed.
    5. If you’re a business owner in the area, promote this event with your customers and clients. You know they like “shopping local” (they’re doing business with you, right?) so this is an audience ready to get excited about being in a mob.
    6. On May 25, 2012 go to the business that the Facebook group community votes as the business to be mobbed. Spend a little bit of money (maybe $10 or $20).
    7. Make sure to announce that you are a cash mobber. Introduce yourself to the owner/manager/employees and make a real life connection, not just a virtual online one.
    8. Encourage your employees, family, and friends to do the same.
Sign up. Nominate your favorite local business. Vote. Mark your calendar for May 25, 2012 when the Middleborough/Lakeville Mob marches into one local business ready to say hi and maybe spend a little money with the “mom and pop” shop.

We’re joining the Mob. Are you?

Fantastic idea! How much of a mob can we get in your store?

  • The Marketing Chick Says:

LOL! We would happily fit in as many as show up, standing room only works for us… but you have to go and nominate a local business to be mobbed. Then, the Facebook community will vote in a poll (poll to be released when the group hits 100 members) to see which business will be mobbed on May 25th. There are lots of good nominations already out in the group and the group is looking for more nominations so that the community can choose the first business!

The mob will hit The Main Drag, a wonderful little sandwich shop at 75 North Main Street (across from the police station and the library). Stop in, buy food, and tell then you are a cash mobber!
