cprRecently, the American Heart Association released new guidelines on performing CPR in an emergency situation. This news got John Neely, the owner of South Shore Computer Repair in downtown Middleboro to have a conversation with one of his clients, Ed Dowd of Osha Safety Training Specialists, about offering a special class to area residents.

“We have been in Middleboro Center for almost two years now,” says Neely. “As a former firefighter, I am certified in CPR but it’s something that everyone should at least know the basics of, in case of an emergency.”

“There is almost no excuse for everyone not to learn some form of rescue techniques,” comments Dowd. “Lay people tend to be afraid to perform CPR because they don’t feel qualified or haven’t been trained, but everyone should know the basics. It could save someone’s life.”

In partnership with Osha Safety Training Specialists and Flat Iron Café, South Shore Computer Repair is sponsoring a class that will teach you how to perform the traditional methods of CPR, as well as the new methods as released by the American Heart Association. The cost of the class is $30. At the end of the session, participants will feel more comfortable with these life-saving techniques and will receive a certificate of completion.

The class is scheduled for Sunday, January 9, 2011 at 2:00 PM and is being held at Flat Iron Café, located at 444 Centre Street. The cost of the class is $30 per person and is limited to a class size of ten people. To reserve your spot in this CPR certification class, please contact South Shore Computer Repair at telephone number 508.947.1966 or at email address help@ssc-repair.com.

“Middleboro, and the surrounding towns, have been so supportive of us since we moved here two years ago,” said Neely. “This is just my way of giving a little bit back to the community while also supporting two local businesses, Osha Safety Training Specialists and Flat Iron Café.”

The cost is only $30 per person but the life you could save with this knowledge is priceless.

BuyLocal.inddWhen you shop local, you invest in your community, in your neighbors and in yourselves. In this economic climate, the best return on investment is in local business. According to some studies, it is estimated that for every dollar you spend, twice as much will be reinvested in the community by a local store or service. With the holidays fast approaching and the shopping mad dash that happens at this time of the year, Flat Iron Cafe, Mary Barry Massage Therapy and South Shore Computer Repair want to encourage everyone to “Buy Local” when doing your shopping for the holiday season.

By shopping local, you are supporting the “mom and pop” stores and services that help make Middleboro a great place to live and work. A lot of the things that you might be looking for – and would probably head out to the big-box stores to get – can be found right here in downtown Middleboro. Try some of these local shops for everyone on your shopping list:

Most of the downtown businesses offer gift certificates as well – so if you don’t know what to buy for that special someone on your naughty and nice list, just pick up a gift certificate for them at one of the businesses in Middleboro.

Thanks to the Cranberry County Chamber of Commerce and Middleboro’s Office of Economic and Community Development Office (OECD), Sunday December 5, 2010 and Friday, December 10, 2010 are officially “Buy Local” Days this year! From 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on December 5th and December 10th, there will be an art fair, a performance of It’s a Wonderful Life, street performers and more! For more information about the community festivities contact the Chamber of Commerce at Valerie@cranberrycountry.org or the OECD at analevanko1@verizon.net.

Support your local business owners and pick up some great gifts for Mom, Dad and everyone else on your shopping list!

oldcomputerDo you have old computers, monitors, keyboards, printers or mice just laying around? Are they unwanted, unloved and unnecessary clutter in your house? Then Middleboro is looking to help you!

These items can’t just be tossed in our landfills. They need to be disposed of properly – which can be a hassle if you don’t know where to bring these items or how to dispose of them.

On Saturday, October 16, 2010 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM Middleboro is sponsoring an e-Waste Collection Day. Simply bring your unwanted electronic items (no televisions, please) to the Middleboro Town Hall parking lot.

This free event is sponsored by Middleboro’s Department of Public Works and Office Recycling Solutions. There is no charge to Middleboro residents and business owners.

If you won’t have the opportunity to bring these items to Town Hall yourself, South Shore Computer Repair is offering to take in these items and then bring them to to Town Hall for you. If you drop off your unwanted computers by 5:00PM on Thursday, October 14th, we will also make sure that your computer hard drives are wiped clean so that none of your personal data is going out beyond your control.

Our shop hours are Tuesday through Friday from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. So bring your old technology to us and we will make sure that it gets to Town Hall on Saturday to be disposed of properly!
